Hot hotter Bangkok

Bangkok was the last place and the hottest place of our journey. We took the chance to use Bangkok as a stopover for our return flight from South Vietnam to the North to visit Thailand.


Bangkok is a huge city with its 11Mio inhabitants and there are also many tourists with around 23 Mio a year. The visit of the palace was way too crowded for us and we could not enjoy the beauty in the loud and hot places.

We preferred the less touristic Wats(temples) which were characterized by calmness, tranquility and peace.


Temples in Bangkok were much more decorated with gold and in a better/more expensive state than in Vietnam. On the other side the temples in Vietnam were more worshipped and more local people visited them.


In the temples you must wear long trousers, so I joined the tourist armada of elephant trousers. Not pretty, but effective.

Food

The food in Thailand was amazing. We preferred it over Vietnam. We directly fell in love with Pad Thai, Green Thai Curry, Khao Soi, Kanom Jeen Nam Ngiao and more. 




Shopping

In Bangkok you can shop a lot. We went to a shopping hall and they were literally selling plastic figures on 4 floors. Just plastic figures.

Or we found a hidden dealer with the big roles of arm bands which are sold separately on the streets for 5 times the price. And they also had the newest shirts that haven't arrived yet on the street markets.

Nightlife

Nightlife in Bangkok is alive and exotic. You can buy different kind of meats like crocodile or drugs like weed.


The view from 309m, the seventh-tallest all-hotel structure in the world. All the other skyscrapers seems so small.

The Capital: Hanoi

Coming from Europe the city of Hanoi will be an overstimulation. It's crowdy, full, loud, colorful and full of interesting cultural differences. People are selling everything everywhere at any time. Like this restaurant on the sidewalk: This is crazy for us rushing to lidl on Saturday evening to get some food. Traffic is going completely crazy. It's impossible to show this in pictures or video, but crossing a street feels so risky in the beginning. Let's see if we get used by almost getting run over everytime. Rules are here mostly not strict and adapted to be convient. Meaning a train can go straight through the city, red light = green light, everything is a parking lot,... This makes a lot of things just so convient, but at the same time unpredictable. There is so much more to tell about Vietnam and facts you would never believe. Sapa and the Animals

Sapa is a village in the mountains of the Hoàng Liên Son. In 1880 it was founded as a resort for the French soldiers, who colonized Vietnam and wanted a retreat for hot summers. Nowadays it's a peak touristic place with about 1500 travel buses a day coming from Hanoi which is a 6h travel. We were astonished by all the (vietnamese)tourists, hotels, restaurants and massage salon's. For us this was the starting point of our trekking tour. One of the most harsh impressions in Sapa were young girls dancing and begging for money. The region is home of many ethnic minorities, one of them totally adapted to the tourism. Seeing children beg for money really breaks your heart. The Vietnamese tourists visiting Sapa are not leaving the village and are there to eat and drink. Eating is all about meat.
